Acupuncture treats many conditions effectively
Acupuncture can be a real fix for many conditions as it treats the cause of the complaint and not just treating the symptoms.
Acupuncture can be a real fix for many conditions as it treats the cause of the complaint and not just treating the symptoms.
Acupuncture is a therapeutic form of treatment that manipulates the Qi or energy flow throughout the body by returning the natural balance through the use of Acupoints. It is an ancient form of treatment that has been part of the Chinese culture for thousands of years. It has been in Australia since the 1970’s and has become a major part of the main stream health industry.
Acupuncture can treat many conditions like headaches, pain, colds and flu. It can treat conditions that western medicine can struggle with, like women’s issues for instance. The western medicine fix is to go on the pill, take pain killers or put up with it. With Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM this can be treated with great success. With Acupuncture there are no side effects so it is a better way to treat verses taking drugs. Many conditions that are being treated with western medicine and medication are only just managing the symptoms and the medication is to be taken for life with some of the side effects not being very pleasant at all.
Acupuncture is not a quick fix as it is generally requires a course of treatments to get the desired results. Here in Australia, single use needles are used. It can be combined with other therapies to enhance its therapeutic qualities, like using Chinese herbs, cupping, scraping, Electro Acupuncture, Acupuncture point injection therapy and many others.
It may help treat conditions such as:
- Upper and lower back pain.
- Neck problems.
- Sciatic nerve pain.
- Sports injuries.
- Hip, knee and ankle problems.
- Frozen shoulder, tennis/golfer’s elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome.
- Colds and flu.
- Sinusitis and rhinitis.
- Women’s issues like – PMS, painful periods, irregular menstruation, lochiorrhea, menopause and hot flushes.
- Headaches and migraines.
- GIT disorders like – IBS, borborygmus, diarrhoea and constipation.
- In conjunction with a healthy diet and sensible exercise, TCM may assist with weight loss.
Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy
APIT or Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy is the therapy which involves injecting small amounts of saline solution into Acupuncture or trigger points just under the skin or into the muscles. It is administered by qualified Acupuncturists. It evolved from Acupuncture and has been a therapy used by Acupuncturists in China for around 50 years. APIT promotes the body’s own self healing process and does not simply suppress or mask the pain.
APIT may work in several ways. The injection of the saline into the points can activate them in a similar way to Acupuncture needles with the major difference being that the bolus of the saline water can activate the points for a longer period of time enhancing the therapeutic effect.
The saline solution is an isotonic solution containing the same salt concentrations as our cells, blood and interstitial fluid. In cases of acute or chronic injury the interstitial fluid may become congested with the waste products from injured tissue which may prevent the nutrient and waste product transfer between the cells and the bloodstream. The injection of saline may improve the quality of the interstitial fluid allowing nutrient and waste transfer between the cells and bloodstream to occur efficiently again. Being pH neutral the saline may have its own particular effects on the local connective tissues and possibly optimising conditions for the body’s self healing.

Acupuncture Point Injection Therapy is useful for treating the same conditions that are normally treated by conventional Acupuncture. However it is ideal for acute and chronic musculo-skeletal pain including sports injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, Achilles pain, hip and neck pain, tennis elbow, knee foot and ankle pain, wrist and hand problems, frozen shoulder, lower back pain, sciatica, rib pain and headaches, etc.
Electro Acupuncture
Electro Acupuncture can be applied for treating musculoskeletal complaints.
It was originally developed in China in the 1930’s. Similar to the T.E.N.S. machine which uses self adhesive pads to fix to the skin, the Electro Acupuncture stimulator connects to the end of the needles. This can allow for deeper penetration down to the end of the needle. This allows it to get at the source of the problem. They work by stimulating the muscles with a mild electrical current. This pulsating stimulation makes the muscles contract and release.
It may help release tight and sore muscles and relieving pain at the source of the problem.
We have been using electro stimulation in this Clinic for many years now and are very happy with the results that we get. Treating mostly musculoskeletal complaints, the extra stimulation that it provides is not likely to be delivered by the hand of the practitioner.
We generally incorporate this with a standard Acupuncture treatment by combining this therapy with specific acupoints to treat the complaint as a whole.
Focusing on the cause of the problem instead of just easing the symptoms.
